Match Report

Rossington’s unbeaten run at Non-League step 5 extended to nine games as Liam King’s injury time equaliser shared the points once again in Bradford at Bradford Park Avenue’s Horsfall Community Stadium.

After a tense, heated game involving plenty of cards, Robbie Fox thought he found the winner for Albion scoring on the 82 minute using the post and in, much to the joy of the home spectators.

Following all five substitutions being made by Ben Hunter’s side, the experienced Liam King rescued a point with a powerful top-corner strike which proved too powerful for the hand of Kyle Trennery in-goal for The Lions which broke the away fans into sheer celebration.

The heavily anticipated contest between fifth and fourth got under way at the Horsfall Community Stadium with Rossington coming close to taking the lead after just 12 minutes. Rosso’s Manasse Kianga latched onto a great ball in-behind and with Brad Grayson waiting, Rosso’s number nine’s squared ball was just intercepted by The Lions’ shot-stopper Trennery otherwise Rossington would of been clean through.

Minutes later, Ellis Wade attempted a volley from the edge of the box for Albion however, his effort finished over the bar, nothing to trouble Rosso’s goalkeeper Jim Pollard.

After Ashley Flynn attempted a similar shot, up the other end, Rossington screamed for a penalty as King was brought down inside the box after being free on goal. The referee dismissed the decision and a corner kick was awarded which Albion then defended well.

Rossington’s Harry Sheppeard then delivered a vital sliding block after an Albion short corner, another move straight off the training ground of which they attempted the edge of the box shot. After consecutive Lions’ corners, Rosso then cleared their lines.

After the rain started to heavily pour and the floodlights were switched on, Rossington’s captain Greg Young was shown the first yellow card of the game with ten minutes left until the interval.

Cameron Hough was the next to enter the referee’s book as he was unfairly punished with a yellow card for his sliding tackle which awarded The Lions a free kick. Goalie Pollard then came to the rescue at the far bottom corner to prevent the on target free kick from hitting the back of the net.

Despite the break, another yellow card was awarded to Rossington four minutes after the restart as this time King was the third person of the afternoon to be penalised with a booking.

The yellow cards kept coming as Kianga was shown an unfortunate yellow in what looked to be a 50-50 challenge of which Albion received a free kick in a dangerous area. After Pollard made a near post save minutes earlier, Rosso’s shot-stopper saved Rossington on the line once again as he denied a crafty under the wall set piece shot from Flynn.

After Rossington made all five substitutions Albion took the lead with eight minutes of regular time left as Fox hit the post and in to give The Lions the lead.

With a minimum of eight minutes signalled for additional time at the end of the regular 90 minutes, in front of 131 spectators at the Horsfall Community Stadium King broke Albion hearts with a marvellous equaliser on the 90+4 minute. After the leveller Rosso pushed for the winner but it was a brilliant point earned to extend Rossington’s unbeaten run to nine games.

ROSSO XI: Pollard (GK), Hough, Prior (72’ Green), King, Langton (84’ Parkin), Young (C), Sheppeard (72’ Sherburn), Grayson (68’ Slater), Kianga, Hardy (84’ Bell), Harrison.
