After three-weeks without a competitive game, Rosso registered their fourth straight Northern Counties East League Premier win with a victory over the Steelmen in Rotherham.
Harry Middleton broke the deadlock five minutes from half-time when a cleared corner came out to the number 16 outside of the box who delivered the finish for Greg Young’s side.
Liam Tomlinson’s looping header 14 minutes into the second half levelled proceedings however, four minutes later, Rosso restored the lead following a clinical finish one-on-one by Brad Grayson.
On what was Ross Hannah’s 100th appearance for Rosso, he was denied of goal number 77 for the club by the woodwork however, a third wasn’t needed as Young’s side confirmed the victory when the final whistle went.
The battle between the Steelmen and Rosso got underway at Roundwood with both sides trying to push forward in the opening ten minutes. Most notably, Leigh Overton in-goal for Rosso provided a great stop at the top corner after an on-target Parkgate header. Rosso didn’t find the target but provided two good attacking opportunities after a Hannah free-kick and Oliver Nowak attempt.
After ten minutes was on the clock, Rosso came very close to breaking the deadlock as after a good link-up between Hannah and Will Sutton, Rosso’s number three fired on-goal only for Jordan Greaves to make the save. Seconds later, Greaves just prevented Paul Sherburn from taking it around him and slotting it into an empty net after the Parkgate shot-stopper timed his run perfectly.
With Rosso having the majority of attacking chances in the first-half, the deadlock would be broken on the 40 minute when the former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Middleton opened his scoring account for Rosso with a long-range finish. Following an away corner, of which Cameron Hough nearly provided a headed finish, the ball cleared out to the number 16 who found the back of the net in style.
Rosso started the second 45 minutes with the same intensity as they ended the first and shortly after the restart, Nowak almost put Rossington two in-front only for his driven strike to finish inches wide of the far post.
Despite Rosso looked the most likely to find the game’s second goal, it was the Steelmen who levelled the game on the 59 minute when Tomlinson’s header from Harry Days’ cross found the back of net.
The Steelmen’s equaliser was short lived as Rosso restored the lead four minutes later via the perfect through ball from Nowak. The number 11 smartly crafted the space for Grayson to be in-behind one-on-one with Greaves of which he clinically found the back of the Parkgate net.
In front of 107 spectators at the Parkgate Sports & Social Club, Hannah almost marked the perfect century appearance with a goal but was denied by the near the post. Five minutes of additional time followed but Rosso defended the closing stages well and as a result took all three-points back to Doncaster.
