The former Doncaster Rovers scholar originally arrived at Oxford Street in the summer of 2020 following his release from the Rovers. After turning out briefly for Staveley, Barnett impressed but was hampered with both injury and the Covid-19 pandemic which as a result curtailed seasons just when he hit form. As he returned from injury and made multiple appearances for the development side in the 2022/23 campaign, Barnett made one first-team appearance in the season Rosso won promotion from the Northern Counties East League Division One through the play-offs. For the following 2023/24 season, Barnett had further NCEL Division One game time as he moved to Wakefield of which he helped them reach the play-offs. Promotion wasn't to be with the West Yorkshire side and he soon returned back to Rosso in the summer of 2024.
